From a Small High Street Shop to One of Hockey’s Biggest Homes

 

At Hockey Factory Shop, we’ve always believed we’re more than just a retailer, we’re one big family.

Our story began back in 1989, in a small high street shop with a simple goal: help hockey players get the right kit, from people who truly understand the game. What started as a local store quickly grew, fuelled by passion, hard work, and an ever-expanding community of players who trusted us.

Growth came fast. So fast, in fact, that we outgrew our first shop and had to move. Not long after, we became one of the first hockey retailers in the UK to trade online, with our early e-commerce operation running from a tiny room at the back of the shop.

We can still remember the excitement of hearing that unmistakable dial-up modem sound… and the buzz of receiving our very first internet order. Back then, we couldn’t wait to get it packed and dispatched as quickly as possible.

Fast forward to today, and we now ship around 38,000–40,000 parcels every year — but that same drive is still there. Every order matters just as much as that very first one, and we work just as hard to get it out of the door quickly and correctly.

As demand grew, we moved again, this time to a small industrial estate on the outskirts of Leicester… and that’s where we still proudly operate today.

Over the years, we’ve expanded our warehouse, grown our ranges, and built one of the largest specialist hockey inventories around, but we’ve never lost sight of who we are.

Many of our team have been with us for 25 years or more, bringing unrivalled technical knowledge to everything we do. We don’t just sell hockey equipment, we’ve designed it, manufactured it, tested it, and played in it. In fact, we design and manufacture goalkeeper equipment in-house, something only a handful of specialists worldwide truly know how to do. That hands-on experience means we understand every stick, shoe, pad, and piece of protection that leaves our warehouse.

Today, as part of the Sports Factory Shop Group, we offer huge ranges across Hockey, Rugby, Cricket and Padel, alongside personalised teamwear, school kit, and custom printing. We work closely with the University of Leicester, supply clubs and teams nationwide, and continue to invest in new ventures across protection and performance wear.

But at our core, we’re still the same family business.

Every order is picked from our shelves by real people who care. Every question is answered by someone who knows the sport inside out. And every customer matters whether you’re buying your very first stick or kitting out an entire club.
