Hockey Stick Size Guide

Find the right stick for your game

Whether you're buying your child's first hockey stick or upgrading to a new one, choosing the correct length makes a real difference to comfort, control and technique.

What size hockey stick do I need?

The easiest way to start is with the player's age, but height is the more reliable guide. Children grow at different rates, so always check their height before choosing a stick.

How to check the fit

  1. Stand the hockey stick upright beside the player, with the head resting on the floor.
  2. For younger players, check whether the top of the handle reaches approximately the hip bone.
  3. Make sure the player can hold and control the stick comfortably.

Should I buy a longer stick for my child to grow into?

We wouldn't recommend buying a stick that's significantly too long. An oversized stick can make controlling the ball and developing good technique more difficult.

Junior vs adult hockey sticks

Junior sticks are generally available in shorter lengths, up to approximately 35 inches. A 36.5-inch stick is the standard adult starting point, while 37.5-inch and longer sticks are available for players who prefer additional reach.

Individual manufacturers may classify their junior and adult models differently.
